This accessibility statement applies to the Sport Wales website. This website is run by The Sports Council for Wales (Sport Wales). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some videos contain spelling or typographical errors. This may affect users who rely on captions.
  • For speech recognition software users, some controls to open or close content may not respond to specific commands, such as, "Click [visible label]" or "Click button". Instead, use the MouseGrid tool.

Issues affecting screen reader users

  • Screen reader software users who read some pages in Welsh, may find some text elements that are not visible on the page but that have been added to improve usability have not been translated into Welsh.
  • Some headings are not correctly identified, and headings do not have the correct level. This may make the structure of some pages harder to understand.
  • On the Stories page, after applying a filter, a text message is updated to show the new number of results listed. This is not automatically conveyed to screen reader software users.

Issues affecting people with low vision

  • Some elements within videos do not have a contrast ratio of at least 4:5:1. This may make the text difficult to read for users with a visual impairment.

  • Some complex data tables are not coded correctly (WCAG 2.2 AA criterion 1.3.1 - Info and Relationships)
  • Some headings are not marked-up correctly or are not correctly nested. (WCAG 2.2 AA criterion 1.3.1 - Info and Relationships).
  • In some of the videos, some text elements do not have a contrast ratio of at least 4:5:1. (WCAG 2.2 AA criterion 1.4.3 - Colour Contrast).
  • On the Stories page, applying filters updates a text string showing the number of results. This status message cannot be programmatically determined through role or properties such that they can be presented to the user by assistive technologies without receiving focus. (WCAG 2.2 AA criterion 4.1.3 - Status Messages)
  • Some elements, such as aria-label attributes, are not in Welsh on the Welsh language pages. (WCAG 2.2 AA criterion 3.1.2 - Language of Parts)

Not applicable. We are planning to fix all the issues we have so far identified in testing.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The video player is a third-party widget provided by Vimeo. As it is third-party content that is not developed by, nor under the control of, the organisation, it falls within the exemptions set out in Regulation 4(2)(e) of the accessibility regulations. Known accessibility issues of the player include:

  • A menu that is unavailable without using a mouse.
  • Numerous single character key shortcuts. When the textbox in the Transcript overlay has focus, the H key opens the Settings overlay.
  • Sub-menus where the state is not consistently announced
  • Contrast issues for non-text elements

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and other documents may be essential to providing our services.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will resolve all non-compliance issues that are within our control (detailed under ‘non-compliance with the accessibility regulations’) and update this statement.

To ensure accessibility of this website, we have:

  • built accessibility into our procurement process
  • given accessibility training for our staff
  • regular reviews of content
  • annual external accessibility audits

We also try to ensure that:

  • all images contain appropriate alternate text
  • interactive elements are reachable in different ways, including by keyboard navigation
  • interactive elements have style changes when hovered over or focused on with keyboard
  • all colour combinations have enough contrast between them

This website has been audited to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA. A sample of pages was tested which reflected all the key user journeys for the Sport Wales website users.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 22 July 2026.

We followed GOV.UK guidance on deciding how to check the Sport Wales website as follows:

  • We manually assessed all the unique pages to determine the type of content on those pages.
  • We identified a minimum representative subset of pages that contain examples of the most common layouts, components and features, including:
    • Important “unique pages”.
    • Pages with text content.
    • Interactive elements such as forms.
  • We conducted a manual WCAG audit on the representative subset of pages.
