Establishing in 1928, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales (BGC Wales) is one of the oldest youth work organisations in Wales. They strive to make youth work accessible to young people from all over Wales and encourage their personal, social and educational growth. BGC Wales works with around 100 member clubs to make a large impact in small communities. Their member clubs are open access youth clubs that provide opportunities for young people to take part in activities such as sport.

What are the main aims of Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales?

The mission of BGC Wales is to assist in the process of moral, cultural, mental & physical development of young people, so as to ensure a smooth transition into adult life.

They aim to support the young people and their changing needs in these tough times through providing them with a safe place to go to, training and projects that will enable them to fulfil their potential and the opportunity to take part in life changing opportunities.

How does Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales’ work help Sport Wales to achieve an Active Nation?

Sports has been an important part of Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales for over 80 years and they are still using it as a way to develop young people. Being frequently active in sports enables young people to gain new experiences, self-confidence, motivation and valuable communication skills.

They are involved in numerous different sports with many used to provide competition whilst many others are used to enhance young people’s development.

BGC Wales’ open access youth clubs provide opportunities for young people to meet with their friends and take part in activities which invariably include many different sports.

How can Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Wales support the wider network of partners in our united Vision for Sport?

BGC Wales has historically collaborated with many organisations such as Street Games, Sported, Sports Leaders UK to help provide opportunities for young people to access sport and physical activity.

Working with training providers, BGC Wales offer training in Youth Work (Level 2 & 3), Safeguarding, First Aid, Sports Leadership and NGB Sports Awards.
