The Sports Governance Academy is the governance support hub for the sport and physical activity sector in the UK. They help everyone leading, working and volunteering in sports organisations to develop good governance in order to achieve their goals.
Their mission:
Their objective is to improve the standard of governance in sport and physical activity organisations in the UK by supporting, developing and connecting the people who work with, and have an interest in governance in sport.
The SGA aims to demystify governance and help organisations respond effectively to the growing governance challenges and opportunities the sector faces. They want people at all levels in sport and physical activity organisations to understand the benefits of good governance.
Their unique platform for governance support is provided by The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland in partnership with all of the UK Sports Councils, including Sport Wales. This partnership is built on:
- a shared commitment to champion good governance to enable organisations to be successful
- a common goal to develop the skills, experience, resources and networks that people involved in the sport and physical activity sector need.

The SGA's services and resources are delivered by the SGA Team, supported by Sport Wales and the other UK sport councils.

The SGA provides a trusted set of free resources that support all areas of governance activity. Their guidance, templates, checklists, webinars, essays and blogs are designed to help you get to grips with governance and drive success in your organisation.
Community
Their community is an active network of people who are facing similar governance challenges in the sports sector. Being part of it gives you the support and experience of others and creates new opportunities for collaboration and peer-learning. It brings together people from across the sector online, at regular networking events and our flagship annual conference.

Their practical training courses build capability in your organisation by equipping you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to tackle your governance responsibilities. Training courses are provided for those working in the sport and physical activity sector in the UK.
