Sport Wales’ Be Active Wales Fund will reopen for new applications from 9am on Monday 4 November.
Using National Lottery money, the Be Active Wales Fund offers grants between £300 and £50,000 which enable sports clubs and organisations to buy equipment, enhance their facilities and support the development of volunteers and coaches so that so that they can support more people to become active.
Sport Wales has been inundated with funding applications this year, so the Be Active Wales Fund was temporarily paused to new applications in mid-September so that applications already in the system could be processed.
The Be Active Wales Fund is now re-opening with £1m worth of funding remaining.
The fund will be open for 10 weeks from Monday 4 November, with all applications needing to be fully completed by 10am on Monday 13 January. The fund will then pause again so that applications can be processed before the end of the financial year.
If you've been successful in applying for a grant from the Be Active Wales Fund since 1st April 2024, you are ineligible to apply again until 1st April 2025 and your successful grant has been closed.
With a limited amount remaining, Sport Wales wants to stress the following:
The first stage for any club or community group interested in funding is to fill out the community investment expression of interest form. Should your idea be eligible for the Be Active Wales Fund, you will be contacted by Sport Wales’ Investments Team.
When assessing eligible applications, the community impact of a project will be the key point taken into consideration.
Owen Hathway, Sport Wales’ Assistant Director for Insight, Policy and Public Affairs, said: “The volume of applications made to the Be Active Wales Fund this year has been the most we have ever received. We look forward to seeing how clubs and community organisations aim to use the remaining funding to drive Welsh sport further forward, and we will support as many of them as possible.
“However, we do only have £1m remaining, so there is a possibility that some eligible applicants won’t be supported during this financial year. They will of course be able to reapply when the fund reopens for the new financial year in April 2025.”
Please note that the ‘A Place for Sport’ Fund that Sport Wales operates in conjunction with Crowdfunder will remain open and accessible throughout this period. ‘A Place for Sport’ helps to provide funding for off-field facilities such as improvements to changing rooms, better disability access etc.
