With Team Wales' record breaking 36 medals at the Glasgow fresh
in our minds, the Research Team is currently undertaking a review
on behalf of the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales. The aim of
this is to learn from the experience of Glasgow so that we can
improve the potential for Wales to perform strongly on the Gold

Becca attended the latest National Access Forum meeting in mid
Wales this week. Natural Resources Wales are running a series
of consultation workshops on their draft Recreation and Access
Strategy, and as a Forum member we were invited to take part.
This provided an interesting opportunity to make links and hear
from other partners working in outdoor recreation. Natural
Resources Wales will be analysing feedback from their workshops in

Rachel, alongwith Dan Milton from Cardiff Metropolitan
University, undertook the final round of fieldwork at Bryntirion
Comprehensive School this morning as part of our EmpoweringPE
research project. The Year 9 pupils were great! A big thank you to
all the staff and pupils involved in the project!

Some fantastic examples of evidence informing practice were
shown at Central South Consortium's 'Physical Literacy: the game
changer' conference last week. Great to see teachers and pupils
using their School Sport Survey data to increase pupil voice,
improve physical literacy, and affect whole school outcomes. There
were also some moving and inspirational stories of how PE and
school sport can have such a positive effect on pupils. We loved

We attended an interesting seminar yesterday by
Steve Manske from Waterloo University in Canada sharing lessons
from creating healthy school communities in Canada. Interesting
parallels with how we approach our School Sport Survey... in terms
of reporting back to schools, young people championing the survey
and its use, and engaging and encouraging the education and sport
sectors to provide an action-orientated, evidence-based approach.

We had a very productive meeting with Professor Simon Murphy
from Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex
Interventions for Public Health Improvement(DECIPHer) this morning
exploring opportunities for collaboration.

We are collaborating with the Wales Institute of Social and
Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) at the University of
South Wales to add value to our built and natural sports facilities
databases. Academics and Masters Students will be using GIS
technology to explore the data in conjunction with social,
demographic and geographic data to examine a variety of issues, the
first of which will be to model public access to facilities.

Government policy officials, researchers and statisticians this
