Response to Ministerial statement on sport

On 3 October 2017 Rebecca Evans AM, the Minister for Social Services and Public Health, made a statement on physical activity and sport.

Below you can find a response from Sarah Powell, Chief Executive at Sport Wales.

"I welcome the policy statement made today by the Minister for Social Services and Public Health.

The Minister has set out a clear direction for Sport Wales and Welsh sport that enables us to move forward with confidence. We are committed to working together with our sector and a wide range of other bodies to maximise the benefits of sport for all.

It's right that we will also continue to focus on identifying our nation's sporting talent and work with our partners to develop and deliver success for our nation.

Alongside this we will be working closely with Public Health Wales and other partner bodies to make sure that we align behind a collective way forward, clarify our roles and agree a set of collective actions that will enable the people of Wales to become more active.

I also recognise we need to adapt and evolve as an organisation so that we are best equipped to meet future sporting needs of the nation.

Sport Wales will now focus on engaging and working with a wide range of partners and listen to people's ideas and suggestions to shape a new vision for sport that reflects the needs of everyone in Wales, and responds to the Government's new strategy Prosperity For All".
