Liz Johnson and Billy Pye

Athlete: Liz Johnson, Paralympic Gold 100m Breaststroke

Coach: Billy Pye, Head Coach GB Paralympic Swimming Team

Coach from 2003 - 2009

Seventeen years as a miner taught Billy a thing or two about discipline and performance. Add a love for swimming, and the skills transferred easily to coaching: 'We're both striving for the same thing, both looking for that extra bit that no one else in the world can do.'

His impact on Liz's career has been huge: 'When I won at Beijing all the emotion came out and we both realised that what we'd worked so long for had been worth it.'
