After suffering a serious injury playing rugby, Dave Rowe,
developed an interest in sports medicine and rehabilitation in the
hope that a hole left by a premature end to his sporting career
could be filled by working to help other sportsmen and women.
Dave qualified with a RSA diploma in Sports Massage Therapy in
1994 and is now employed as Sport Wales Institute's Senior
Soft Tissue Therapist; delivering and co-ordinating sports massage
provision at the Institute and throughout Wales.
When talking of his role, Dave says:
"I've been very fortunate to have worked with some of the great
and good of Welsh sport since I started out in 1994. From
athletics, where I've worked at the Welsh Athletic Championships,
and both Cardiff's full and half marathons, to the Wales senior
Having also worked with Premier League and Championship football
teams, Fulham FC, Cardiff City FC and West Ham FC, Dave has been
the Sports Masseur to the Wales senior football squad, covering
well over 100 games and working with a variety of health
professionals in the process.
In a nutshell, the purpose of Dave's role is to increase
performance potential through the use of massage and soft tissue
techniques in not only recovery but also athlete preparation and
conditioning and injury prevention.
He regularly works with Wales' rising and current sporting stars
including Helen Jenkins, Francesca
Jones, Natalie Powell, Rhys Williams
and Aled Sion
Davies to name just a few and covering a multitude of
sports, including athletics, swimming, judo, gymnastics, boxing,
disability sports and cycling."
