Be Active Wales Fund

Providing National Lottery funding to help sports clubs and community groups in Wales to get more people active.

The Be Active Wales Fund is open until 4th June 2025.

About the Fund

The Be Active Wales Fund is a grant supported by the National Lottery. It funds not-for-profit sports clubs and community groups across Wales. You can apply for grants from £300 to £50,000 to get more people taking part in sport.

What can you get funding for?

The Be Active Wales Fund may support such things as:

  • Equipment to help more people take part in sport
  • Coaching courses (up to level 2) that upskill coaches and volunteers
  • Entry-level training courses, such as First Aid or Officiating.
  • Venue hire for new teams only (for a maximum of ten weeks)
  • Pitch improvement projects

When can you apply?

There are three opportunities to apply:

Window 1

  • Opening Date: Wednesday 2nd April 2025 (9am)
  • Expression of Interest Closing Date: Friday 30th May 2025 (9am)
  • Closing Date: Wednesday 4th June 2025 (4pm)

Window 2

  • Opening Date: Wednesday 9th July 2025 (9am)
  • Expression of Interest Closing Date: Friday 12th September 2025 (9am)
  • Closing Date: Wednesday 17th September 2025 (4pm)

Window 3

  • Opening Date: Wednesday 5th November 2025 (9am)
  • Expression of Interest Closing Date: Friday 9th January 2026 (9am)
  • Closing Date: Wednesday 14th January 2026 (4pm)

You can only have one successful application across the three windows. 

Please note: Application windows may close early or change based on the number of applications received.

Who can apply?

Not-for-profit sports clubs or community groups in Wales can apply to the Be Active Wales Fund.

To be eligible, your project must:

  • Take place in Wales and be mainly for people who live in Wales
  • Not have started yet
  • Not include anything that has already been bought
  • Show how it will help more people take part in sport

How to Apply?

  1. Complete the Expression of Interest Form
  2. Fill in the online form to tell us more about your project. 
  3. Submit the format at least 5 days before the window closing date.
  4. Receive confirmation
  5. We’ll aim to reply within 2 working days with next steps.
  6. Get support
  7. Ask your sport’s governing body, local sport development team or other support organisations for guidance.
  8. Submit your full application
  9. Gather all the details and documents and apply before the deadline.
  10. You can apply in English or Welsh – both will be treated equally.

How is funding awarded?

The fund awards grants between £300 and £50,000. Your club must contribute at least 10% of the total project cost.

Funding breakdown:

  • £300 - £25,000: Sport Wales will fund up to 90% of the project costs. You will fund the rest.
  • £25,001 - £50,000: Sport Wales will fund up to 80% of the project costs. You will fund the rest.

Some specific items may only get 50% funding or have financial limits.
