Working for Sport Wales

"These are very thrilling and important times for Sport in Wales and being a part of it is incredibly exciting. I always feel suitably proud when someone asks me who I work for and what do I do."  Marc Gregson, Sports Development

Why work for us?

There's one thing that makes more of a difference to our organisation than anything else; our people.

And there are many reasons why talented people like you join us; great training, challenging environment and most of all an opportunity to change the landscape of sport in Wales.

Our Values and behaviours

It's true to say that actions really do speak louder than words and so how we 'behave' has a huge effect on how we are perceived not only by those we work with outside of Sport Wales, but how we are perceived by each other within Sport Wales.  Our vision for sport in Wales requires all of us to commit to becoming the best at what we do, and our Sport Wales Behaviours serve as a sort of 'roadmap' to help guide us all in the kind of behaviour that is expected from each of us.

Benefits at Sport Wales

We believe that if you are worth employing, then you are certainly worth looking after, and our benefits package helps us to achieve our high performance, employer of choice aspirations.  Acknowledging that individuals have different motivations, we strive to provide a variety of benefits to suit all lifestyles, and are always looking for new and innovative ways to reward and recognise our workforce.

Living in Wales

To attract the best talent from across the UK and beyond, Sport Wales also offer generous relocation packages for many of our senior roles.  Wales has a unique and distinctive culture, and is a fantastic country in which to live and work.

As well as a proud sporting identity, Wales is also home to some of the most breathtakingly spectacular scenery, the friendliest people, and the most rousing traditions throughout the UK. Whatever your interests - whether you're into history, a foodie, or inspired by the Welsh icons of music, film and literature - Wales can deliver.

Visit Living in Wales to find out more about what this fantastic country can offer. We love our lifestyle here in Wales, and know that you will too.

Training and Development

We know that to get the right people, with the right skills, in the right jobs, we have to invest in our employees. We are passionate about continuous personal and professional development.  Right from the start of your employment you will be given a tailor made induction programme and will be offered all the essential training to get you started.  Throughout your employment Sport Wales will continue to invest in you through a variety of development opportunities such as job specific training, regular lunchtime workshops, coaching and mentoring, improving welsh language skills, as well as the opportunity to undertake long term study.  We are particularly proud of our CMI accredited Leadership and Management programme which is available for all employees and has made a real difference to Sport Wales.  All of this has helped us to achieve Investors in People Gold accreditation in 2015.

Diversity and Inclusiveness

We are a great organisation to work for and we demonstrate this through our commitment to not only developing a truly inclusive sporting agenda, but also a truly inclusive working environment within Sport Wales.

Equal Opportunities Monitoring

To establish whether we are on the right path and making inroads into our organisational strategies, we need to understand who we are:

  • What is the profile of the candidates we are attracting?
  • What do we look like as an organisation terms of diversity?
  • What is the opinion of candidates, staff, customers and partners on what we do to ensure everyone is treated fairly, equitably and inclusively?

Through supporting our equal opportunities monitoring you can help us to embed a positive culture of diversity and inclusiveness within Sport Wales and the wider community.

The booklet "What's it got to do with you?" published by Stonewall Cymru provides some further context around why organisations, such as Sport Wales, monitor equality and what is done with the information collated.

Positive about disabled people

We are committed to employing people with a disability and as part of this scheme agree:

  • to interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy
  • to ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees, what Sport Wales and they can do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.
  • to make every effort when employees become disabled, to make sure they stay in employment.
  • to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make our commitments work.
  • each year, to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, to plan ways to improve on them, and let employees and Job Centre Plus know about progress and future plans.
