Sport Wales was established by Royal Charter dated 4 February
1972, with the objectives of "fostering the knowledge and practice
of sport and physical recreation among the public at large in Wales
and the provision of facilities thereto". It is financed by an
annual grant-in-aid from the Welsh Assembly Government and from
income generated from its activities.
